ADDISON, Ala. – Tuesday was a special day in the library at Addison High School. For the first time in nearly 30 years, an Addison football player signed a scholarship with a Division One program after Senior standout Luke Chambers signed his letter of intent to play for the University of North Alabama next season. Chambers, a 2019 All-State player and three-year starter on both sides of the ball for the Bulldogs, signed with the Lions after committing to them right before National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
Chambers was excited to put his name on the dotted line and is even more excited to get to campus and start working toward a spot on the field.
“This is crazy, being able to play at UNA. I dreamed of this since I first started playing toy bowl. It is what I have worked for my entire life,” Chambers said. “I am just going to report in the fall and do my best to help the team. I hope to play but am not expecting too right from the beginning. I know I will have to earn my spot.”
Chambers was recruited by Lions Secondary Coach Blake Ferris and was told that UNA wanted him to play safety. Chambers said that he has been to UNA and visited during last year’s homecoming game.
“I have visited the campus several times and love it,” Luke said.
Chambers’ parents, Tia and Shane Chambers, were all smiles as they watched their son sign his letter of intent and wanted to thank the coaches at Addison for helping Luke accomplish one of his biggest goals.
“We are excited for him and couldn’t be prouder,” Shane said. “He has worked hard for this and we would also like to thank the teachers and Coach (David) Smothers here at Addison High School for the help that they have given him to be able to pursue his dream.”
