GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Ultimate Fair will be in Good Hope April 7-11 after the Good Hope City Council approved the event at Monday night’s council meeting. The Birmingham-based carnival will feature midway rides, games and food. The event will take place on the vacant land near Hathcock Road and County Road 437.
Representing the Ultimate Fair at Monday’s meeting were owners Tom and Maria Pearson.
“We have midway rides and vendors. Local food vendors are also welcome,” said Maria Pearson. “Normally we rent the spaces, but being our first year, we are looking at discounting that so people can come and sell. We have entertainment like pony rides and face painting.”
Tickets at the gate will be $3 per person Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Admission for children 3 and younger will be free. Friday and Saturday, tickets for guests more than 48 inches tall will be $5 at the gate. Individual ride tickets can be purchased, or $20 armbands will be available.
“We plan on distributing coupons throughout the Good Hope community,” she added.
Prior to the meeting, Tommy Pearson met with Cullman County Sheriff’s Deputy Corey Freeman to address any potential safety issues.
“Everything looked perfect!” said Mr. Pearson.
The council also held a public hearing regarding the previously discussed 772 economic development agreement with Silva Enterprises, Inc. The council agreed to enter the agreement.
The City will pay up to $15,000 for 20-inch gutters in the new San Antonio subdivision being built by Silva. The subdivision will consist of at least 10 new homes.
“It’s not going to cost us a lot, but we are going to reap a lot of benefits from those 10 houses,” said Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett at the council’s Jan. 27 meeting. “You can’t give people breaks unless you tell the people why you are giving it. That’s called a 772. The State of Alabama says, ‘OK, if it’s for economic development and you will tell the people of Alabama why it’s economically feasible for you to do that, you can do that for economic development.’”
“We will win!” exclaimed Councilman Greg Brown, excited for Tuesday’s Sizzlin’ Seniors event.
Brown was speaking of the Bean Bag Baseball Showdown between the Fairview Recycled Teenagers and the Good Hope Sizzlin’ Seniors. Good Hope will travel to Fairview Tuesday morning for the much-anticipated matchup.
Councilman Taft Dillashaw reported that at least 180 children have signed up for this year’s youth baseball and softball leagues. Practices will begin the first week of March, weather-permitting.
