CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Animal Shelter’s Donna Ruttkay shares The Cullman Tribune Pet of the Week:

Penny is a 1-year-old terrier mix. She’s a laid-back, low-energy pet who’s great on her leash and has good spatial awareness. She enjoys a little dress-up on cold days and loves human companionship.

Penny seems to exert a calming influence on the folks around her, as Ruttkay explained about a visit to a local nonprofit agency office:

“She shyly walked into each office looking for humans to meet and brighten their day. Each corridor brought out people, standing by their office, waiting to interact with our sweet Penny. Penny put a smile on everyone’s face! Guess I’m a bit selfish. I wanted to share Penny’s amazing calming quality with everyone!”

Penny has the makings of an excellent therapy, emotional support or companion dog.

Penny’s adoption fee is $100 which includes: DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet, spaying, microchip, free 30-day health insurance policy issued by 24PetWatch (with valid email only) and a free bag of food from Cullman Pet Depot (you must pay sales tax).

Animal shelter staff and volunteers work with their dogs to make sure they are accustomed to being around people, walking on a leash and practicing good behavior. Several of the shelter’s canine friends have even been “hired” to work as therapy and special needs service dogs.

Please consider adopting, to give a rescued pet a chance at a happy and healthy life.
