GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The inaugural Miss Scarlet Sweetheart Pageant & Expo is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1 at Good Hope High School. The pageant, hosted by the Good Hope High School English Department, will feature seven divisions ranging from 0 to 19 years of age. The expo will feature pageant- and beauty-related vendors. Proceeds from the pageant will benefit the English Department, while proceeds from the expo will go to the band.

Registration for the pageant will be open until 1 hour prior to the start of each division.

Divisions are: Baby Miss 0-2 at 9 a.m., Toddler Miss 2-4 at 10 a.m., Tiny Miss 5-7 at 11 a.m., Little Miss 8-10 at noon, Young Miss 11-13 at 1 p.m., Teen Miss 14-16 at 2 p.m. and Miss 17-19 at 3 p.m.

Registration is $50, with $10 entry fees for optional categories including Prettiest Eyes, Prettiest Hair, Prettiest Smile and Most Photogenic. Admission to the pageant and expo for audience members is $10. The pageant will be held in the Good Hope High School gymnasium and the expo will be held in the Good Hope band room.

The judges for the Miss Scarlet Sweetheart Pageant will be from outside of the Cullman area.

This is the first year for the pageant and expo. Coordinating the event is Good Hope High School English Department Chair Anita Whitlock.

“We are working on flexible seating in our classrooms (English Department) and looking to enhance the library,” said Whitlock. “We are so excited about what the flexible seating is doing, and we want to continue, so we came up with a way to do it ourselves. We can work for it; we’re good with it. We don’t have to ask.”

The City of Good Hope recently donated to the school to help purchase flexible seating and Whitlock credits the city council with helping “get the ball rolling.”

As for Saturday’s expo, Whitlock said, “There is going to be a pageant expo at the same time in the band room and that’s going to benefit the band. They are raising money for new uniforms. We’ll have vendors and a dress re-sale in the band room. We are just trying for a one-stop-shop.”

The Good Hope Scholars’ Bowl Team will be selling water.

Whitlock added, “They are going to Chicago to the nationals. We are just doing so much with this. We all work together.”

The pageant will begin at 9 a.m. and the last division is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. The expo will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Entertainment is also scheduled, with a performance from The Factory Dance Production and a performance from Hanna Hancock.
