CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs on Wednesday proclaimed Jan. 26 through Feb. 1, 2020 “Catholic Schools Week” in the city of Cullman.

National Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the U.S. Traditionally, CSW is held during the last week of January, beginning on the last Sunday in January. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve, Lead. Succeed.” According to www.ncea.org, the website for the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association), this theme encompasses the core products and values that can be found in Catholic schools across the country, as Catholic schools teach students to “become future servant leaders, faith-filled disciples and enriched citizens in our communities.” During Catholic Schools Week, events are planned that focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and on the contributions of Catholic education to our communities and our nation.

Sacred Heart School, part of the Catholic School System in the Diocese of Birmingham, provides a high-quality instruction program for its students within a Catholic Christian atmosphere of love and guidance.

“We appreciate Sacred Heart Catholic School and the role they play in the lives of students and their families here in Cullman,” said Jacobs. “Sacred Heart has been here almost since Cullman’s founding, and they’ve always played a vital role in our community.”

On hand to accept the proclamation on behalf of Sacred Heart School were sixth graders Anna Agnello, Beta Club president, and Charli Roberson, Student Council president.

“Thank you, ladies, for the fine way in which you represent your school,” said Jacobs as he presented the proclamation to them. Jacobs also presented a City of Cullman coin to Agnello and Roberson.

Of the coins, Jacobs said, “City of Cullman coins are handed out to visitors to commemorate their visit to Cullman or to city hall. The front side of the coin depicts our founder Col. Cullmann standing in front of crossed U.S. and Alabama flags and bears our founding date of 1873. The backside contains our logo and website address.”
