ADDISON, Ala. – Addison met Red Bay in a two-game set at Stephenson Gym in Addison Monday night and the Addison Bulldogs came away with a split. The area-leading Red Bay Tigers defeated the Bulldogs, clinching the area crown in the process, by a score of 69-46. The Bulldog boys team fell to 7-11 and probably locks up the third seed in the area tournament.
The area-leading Lady Dawgs defeated Red Bay in a nail biter, 41-36. The Lady Dawgs all but won the area with the win tonight, improving to 12-1 and will be the top seed in the upcoming area tournament.
Addison 41 – Red Bay 36 (varsity girls)
The red-hot Lady Dawgs came into tonight’s game looking to lock up the area crown and came out surprisingly flat. Red Bay played inspired and the Lady Tigers showed that they had nothing to lose. The Lady Tigers would like nothing better than to spoil the Addison Ladies night. The first period ended with the Lady Tigers dominating the Lady Dawgs 15-7. Addison couldn’t get a shot to drop and the Lady Tigers couldn’t miss. Addison only had one made basket in the period.
The second period was a little better for the Lady Dawgs. The Dawgs outscored Red Bay 11-8. The half ended surprisingly, with Red Bay leading a lethargic Addison team 23-18.
After an extremely vocal halftime speech by Coach Frank Graham, the Lady Dawgs came out fired up in the third period. The defense, a Lady Dawg staple, was out in force in the third. Addison, led by Kaylee Brummett who happened to score her 1,000th career point in the win, dominated the period. Addison held Red Bay to only 3 points while scoring 10 of their own. The third period ended with Addison leading 28-26.
The fourth period was a back and forth affair. It appeared that the Lady Dawgs and their pressure defense wore out the Lady Tigers. Addison dominated the boards in the period and outscored Red Bay 13-10. The final score was closer than the it seemed, Addison Lady Dawgs 41, Red Bay Lady Tigers 36.
The win clinched the area for the Lady Dawgs improving their record to 12-1.
After the game, Coach Graham stated, “We came out flat and were just plain out hustled in the opening half. Couldn’t run a play to save our life and didn’t execute. The second half was a completely different ball game. We began to execute and gave a tremendous effort. We are gonna have to up our game and improve before the playoffs.”

Macey “Homecoming Queen” Butler and Kaylee Brummett led the Lady Dawgs with 12 points apiece. Gracie “Bug” Manley chipped in with nine, the Manley sisters, Savannah “Nanner Belle” Manley and “Bug” Manley dominated the glass. “Nanner Belle” led the team with 12 and “Bug” pulled down nine of her own. Some other stat lines of note; Bracie Rodgers had five points, five rebounds an assist and a steal. Callie Crider had two points, five rebounds, two assists and 3 steals.
The Lady Dawgs travel down the road tomorrow night to take on the Meek Tigers in a county match up.
Red Bay 69 – Addison 46
The Addison boys took on the area-leading Red Bay Tigers and Addison picked a bad night to start slow. The Tigers came out fast and hot. The Tigers pressed the Dawgs into multiple turnovers which led to easy baskets for the red-hot shooting Tigers. Addison fought back but the first period ended with Red Bay leading 20-12.
The Dawgs wished that they would have just gone into halftime at that point because someone put a lid on the home town team’s basket. Red Bay dominated the period 21-5. Addison couldn’t hit a layup, three point shot or free throw. Red Bay couldn’t miss. The half ended with Red Bay dominating The Dawgs 41- 17 and it really wasn’t that close. Red Bay was led by seniors Tanner Hamilton and Clay Allison.
The Dawgs came out and played much better in the second half, but the hole was just too big. Addison outscored the Tigers 18-12 and seemed to have the momentum going into the fourth period trailing 53-35. The fourth was a back and forth affair with Red Bay winning the period 16-11. The final score of the game was Red Bay 69, Addison 46.
After the game, Addison Coach Ben Mastin said, “The boys are still trying, and we are going to get better. No one has quit and the effort is there it just needs to be more consistent, especially on the defensive end. If we can put it all together, play with intensity and get total team effort with everyone buying in this can still be a successful season.”
Red Bay Coach John Torisky said after the game, “We played hard and had good energy. We had a solid team defensive effort, especially in the first half. It feels good to win the area and we look forward to bigger and better things.”
Red Bay was led by Junior Braden Kay with 14 points and six rebounds. Tanner Hamilton had 10 points to go with six rebounds. Senior Clay Allison had nine points and Junior Lane Shewbert chipped in seven.
Addison was led by Eli “Curly” Howse with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and 1 steal. Logan “Baby Shaq” Wilkins had 14 points, six rebounds and an assist. Christian Roberts had one point but pulled down six rebounds.
Addison will also travel to Meek to take on the Tigers in a county rivalry game Tuesday night.
