PREP BASKETBALL: Fairview picks up road sweep over Holly Pond

HOLLY POND, Ala. – After splitting their games against West Point on Tuesday, Fairview traveled to take on Holly Pond, who swept Brindlee Mountain last Friday night. In the end, it was Fairview who wound up sweeping Holly Pond. The Lady Aggies defeated the Lady Broncos 50-32 while the Aggies picked up an 86-72 win over the Broncos.

Fairview 50 – Holly Pond 32 (varsity girls)

Fairview held a 10-6 lead after one over Holly Pond. The Lady Aggies had four players score in the second period and they held the Lady Broncos to just five points in the quarter as they took a 22-11 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Holly Pond looked to get something going to start out the second half, but they had a tough time against a very determined Fairview defense as they scored just nine points in the third period. The Lady Aggies, behind five different scorers in the quarter, put up 18 points as they stretched their lead to 40-20 after three and they wound up taking the game 50-32 to snap their three-game losing streak.

Payton Golden and Maddie Yeager each finished with 12 points for Fairview (11-8). Daisy Manasco added 10 points, Molly McKelvy ended up with six, Katie Ball and Emma Garcia each added four and Morgan Lindsay chipped in with two.

For Holly Pond (9-12), Kennedy Twilley and Sarah Finley each finished with eight points. Elizabeth Miller added six points, Kaylee Stallings ended up with five, Tate Duke added four and Rebecca Bell chipped in with a point.

Fairview 86 – Holly Pond 72 (varsity boys)

The first quarter saw Fairview put up 24 points and had five different scorers in the period, while Holly Pond was led by Kyler Chaney, who finished with 10 first-quarter points. The Aggies took a 24-18 lead into the second quarter. 

The Aggies lit up the scoreboard in the second period behind Owen Yarbrough, who finished with 17 points in the quarter, as he drilled five shots from deep and Peyton Bailey nailed a pair of shots from behind the three-point line and added nine points in the period as well. The Fairview defense held the Broncos to just 11 points and wound up taking a 52-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Aggies stretched their lead to 58-31 behind threes by Sawyer Daniel and Dow Nichols. Back-to-back baskets by Austin Turner pushed Fairview’s lead to 30 at 66-36, but the Broncos cut into the lead to end the third period with an 8-2 run that made it a 68-44 game after three.

Holly Pond cut the deficit to 22 at 70-48 on threes by Parker Sellers and Shannon Kitchens. A Jordan Allbright layup made it a 74-52 contest, but Fairview later made it 86-63 on a pair of Yarbrough free throws.

The Broncos went on a run to end the game, scoring the final nine points, but it was too little, too late, and the Aggies went on to take the game 86-72, extending their winning streak to four games.

Fairview (12-6) was led by Yarbrough, who finished with 21 points. Turner added 17 points, Nichols posted 13 points, Bailey added 11 points, Austin Jackson and Daniel ended up with nine points, Mason Black finished with four points and J.T. White scored two.

For Holly Pond (5-12), Chaney led the way with 26 points. Levi Boatright added 12 points, Allbright ended up with 10 points, Jayden Perkins added eight points, Sellers and Kitchens each finished with five points and Casey Brown and Landon Rowell each chipped in with three.

Fairview will host Ashville Friday in a pair of region game and Holly Pond will host Oneonta Monday.
