Mark Clifford Mitchell, 61, passed away peacefully Dec. 30, 2019.

Mark was born Feb. 20, 1958 in Birmingham, Alabama to Rhoda (Stringfellow) and Zeak Clifford Mitchell.

Mark graduated from Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, California and went on to study electrical engineering at Cal Poly Pomona in California.

Mark grew up mostly in southern California, living in San Diego, Fallbrook, Irvine and Pomona. In high school he spent two years in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mark enjoyed learning and was always taking classes. He studied music (flute and guitar) and sign language along with his college classes. He later moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he trained to become a cardiology intensive care unit technician. He eventually followed his parents to Cullman, Alabama. Mark’s strong desire to always be working led him to Walmart where he worked as a greeter. Mark is lovingly remembered by his family as a kind and gentle soul who never had a critical or harsh word for anyone and a supportive son and brother who was always willing to help.

Mark is survived by his father Zeak Clifford Mitchell, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-law Terry (Sue) Mitchell Lanfear and Mike Lanfear, Robbin (Anne) Mitchell Esterman and Joe Barkley; nephews Tyler Mitchell Lanfear, Benjamin William Lanfear and Stephen Mitchell Esterman; cousins Lynda (Mitchell) and Keith Carter; and aunt Bertha Lee (Stringfellow) Fulone.
