WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Lady Warriors returned to Jim Boyd Gymnasium Thursday to host the Lady Titans of Gadsden City and after falling behind in the opening quarter, the Lady Warriors rallied to outscore Gadsden City 31-20 in the second half and pulled away to win it 63-50.
Lexi Shadix knocked down a pair of free throws at the start of the game to give West Point an early 2-0 lead, but the Lady Titans scored five straight to claim the lead. Gadsden city led the way 7-4 early in the first but a three-pointer from Miriam Oldacre tied the game. The Lady Titans were in front 11-9 midway through the opening period and a three from Sheridan Bowers made it a 15-12 game late in the first. Turnovers from the Lady Warriors made it easy for Gadsden City to tack on a couple more baskets before the end of the quarter and led things 20-12 by the start of the second.
Back to back buckets from Miriam Oldacre cut the lead to 22-16 early in the second and West Point continued to chip away until three free throws from Micah Oldacre brought lead down to 22-21 midway through the quarter. The Lady Titans answered with another scoring run but a bucket from Sheridan Bowers trimmed the lead to 29-24 and Miriam Oldacre followed her with another three to make it 29-27 late in the second quarter. The late run continued for the Lady Warriors until a three-pointer from Micah Oldacre gave them a 32-30 lead at the half.
A quick three-pointer from Brooke Brownfield and another basket from Miriam Oldacre gave West Point a 37-30 lead early in the third quarter. Gadsden City added a three-pointer to cut into the lead, but Brownfield answered with another triple to make it 40-33 midway through the third. Brownfield later knocked down her third three-pointer of the quarter to put the Lady Warriors on top 43-33 with three minutes to play in the third. Miriam Oldacre knocked down a three with 30 seconds to play in the period to make it a 50-40 game and West Point went into the final frame with a 52-40 advantage.
The Lady Warriors maintained a 12 point lead early in the fourth quarter until a three from Micah Oldacre stretched the deficit to 15 with five minutes to play. A basket from Ryleigh Jones kept them in front 59-44 midway through the fourth and another basket from Miriam Oldacre made it a 61-48 game with under two minutes remaining. West Point held on to defeat the Lady Titans 63-50 and collect another big win heading into the second half of the season.
Miriam Oldacre led West Point with 29 points in the win, followed by Brownfield with 10, Micah Oldacre with nine, Shadix with eight, Bowers with three and Jones finished with two. The Lady Warriors will be back in action Friday night to host Russellville in an area showdown.
