BERLIN, Ala. – A Berlin woman was arrested and charged Saturday with first-degree financial exploitation of the elderly.
The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said Judy Whatley, 53, was a caregiver for a senior citizen in Cullman County.
The CCSO said it took a report earlier in December from the alleged victim’s family stating that Whatley had allegedly been stealing cash and forging checks from the victim. She also allegedly co-signed on a new vehicle with the victim.
A spokesman for the CCSO said in a statement, “After receiving the information, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the information and consulted with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office to obtain a warrant for financial exploitation of the elderly.”
Financial exploitation of an elderly person in the first degree is a Class B felony.
