VINEMONT, Ala. – How do you write a story about people who don’t want to be the subject of a story, but their story is just too good not to tell? Let’s try! References in quotes which might give away identities have been omitted.

This week at the Cullman County Child Development Center (CDC), 45 students and their families received early Christmas gifts from a group of other Cullman County students who chose to remain anonymous.

The Tribune met with two teachers who work with these students, and they were hesitant to speak very much, explaining, “We’re trying to teach our kids to do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts, and not for recognition. The students really wanted to do it. They love those kids . . . They just honestly have a giving heart, and that’s what it boils down to.”

The teachers reported that their students asked, “‘What can we do for the students for Thanksgiving or Christmas, for the holidays?’ Then someone that knew the needs told us the needs, and so they said, ‘Let’s do food and hygiene boxes,’ and they signed up for the items and brought them in, and raised money. They’re amazing; they speak for themselves. Their actions speak louder than words.”

The students’ principal said, “They’re always looking for an opportunity to try to give back . . . and they’re always looking for a way to do something. During the holidays, people think about gifts and toys, but sometimes, getting that box of groceries with a word of encouragement, that’s just going to be huge for people, and I’m very excited for them and excited for the ones that got to be a part of it, and the ones who get to get the boxes as well.”

CDC Principal Chris Chambers told The Tribune, “Partnerships and relationships allow us to help each other while serving all those around us. It is a special time of year to give, but having a group come together to meet another’s need such as *** is a model of how we should be of service all year long.”
