HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Isabella Allred of Cullman was crowned Miss Wallace State 2020 on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre. She will go on to compete in the Miss Alabama competition, a preliminary of the Miss America program.

Allred, 17, is a Fast Track student majoring in General Studies. She is the daughter of Nathan and Angie Allred.

As Miss Wallace State, she was awarded a one-year renewable tuition and fees scholarship to Wallace State Community College, a $250 cash scholarship and more than $1,500 in prizes from sponsors. She was also named the winner of the talent portion for her vocal performance of “Make Someone Happy,” winning an additional $100 cash scholarship.

“I’m excited,” Allred said of being named Miss Wallace State. “I love my school and I’m so excited to give back to my school and my community.”

Lacey Johnson was named the first runner-up and received a $250 cash scholarship. Johnson, 19 of Pinson is a General Studies and the daughter of Pam and Gary Johnson.

Emilie Northern, 19, of Union Grove, received the Beautiful Heart Scholarship, a $500 cash scholarship presented by the 2013 Miss Wallace State Rebecca Long and her mother Yolanda Long. The award this year was presented in honor of Rob Metcalf, a former Miss Wallace State director.

Allred was crowned by Miss Wallace State 2019 Emma Wright of Blountsville. Miss Alabama Outstanding Teen Zoe Champion acted as mistress of ceremonies.

As Miss Wallace State, Allred will promote her platform: Dyslexia, the Different Brain. Through her platform, she hopes to encourage early diagnosis of dyslexia and other learning disorders.

Allred was 13 when she was diagnosed as having dyslexia. “My dad was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was in the first grade and they thought I had a touch of it, but I was never actually tested in school. It took me years before I was finally diagnosed,” Allred said. “I was eventually able to overcome that, but at first I struggled. It took my parents working with me night and day to get to the point where I am today.”

Allred, who is also the 2019 Miss North Alabama Outstanding Teen, will go on to compete in the Miss Alabama competition June 3-6 at Sanford University. Wright, who was crowned earlier this year as Miss Center Point 2020, will also be competing at Miss Alabama.
