BAILEYTON, Ala. – Baileyton Mayor Johnny Dyar was out of town this week, leaving Councilman Windell Calloway to lead the council’s Monday night meeting.
The Baileyton Christmas party is planned for Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5-7 p.m. The 10th annual event will be a night of fun, fellowship and food. Santa will stop by for pictures with the kids. Hamburgers, hot dogs and other goodies will be served. Guests will receive bags of fruit to take home. The council hopes everyone will come out to celebrate Christmas.
Councilman Wendell Peterson added, “Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you are from.”
Philip Widner, candidate for Cullman County Commission chairman, stopped by to introduce himself and to explain his decision to enter the race. Council members expressed concerns about roads and had questions regarding the County’s budget.
After what the council said have been many months of issues with Sweetwater Security Systems, Dyar and Peterson met with the company’s owner, Harold Nelson, who promised to begin installing the Town’s new cameras Dec. 9.
Peterson said, “They did agree to add two cameras at the senior center at no charge.”
The Town will soon have around the clock surveillance at its properties including throughout the park, storm shelters and town hall.
A new street light has been installed at Alabama Highway 69 and Holly Pond Road. The previous pole was hit by car and had to be replaced. The council also approved adding a new light pole at Summit Road and Pan Creek Road.
The new Baileyton Town Hall is coming along. The trim is going in now and before long, the task of moving will begin. No firm completion date has been given.
