GOOD HOPE, Ala. — The Good Hope Raiders hosted the Holly Pond Broncos in Thursday night hoops actions and both Raider squads came out victorious. The Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Broncos 55-37 and the Raiders pulled away in the second half to take down Holly Pond, 85-66.

Good Hope 57 – Holly Pond 37 (varsity girls)

Good Hope (2-1) jumped out to an early lead over Holly Pond behind Ivey Maddox as she scored eight of her team’s first 10 points to give the Lady Raiders a 10-2 lead and wound up leading 15-5 after one. Good Hope stretched its lead to 29-14 at the half and then the three-ball in the third quarter helped the Lady Raiders break the game open and push the lead to 46-23 going into the fourth. Good Hope held on to win the game by 20, 57-37.

Maddox led the way for Good Hope with 20 points, Rudi Derrick added 12 and Bailey Tetro ended up with 11. For Holly Pond (1-3), Elizabeth Miller finished with 12 points and Kaylee Stallings and Tate Duke each chipped in with nine points.

Good Hope 85 – Holly Pond 66 (varsity boys)

Good Hope’s Drew Maddox drilled four threes in the opening quarter and finished with 15 first-quarter points in the varsity boys showdown. Holly Pond’s Kyler Chaney added six for his team and the Broncos got a big lift from Jayden Perkins as he added nine points in the quarter as well, but the Raiders led things 26-17 after one.

Chaney started to get red-hot in the second period, scoring 12 points and Levi Boatright added seven for the Broncos as they kept pace with Good Hope. Some late baskets by Chaney, plus a big free throw by Perkins, helped cut the Holly Pond deficit down to 42-38 going into the half.

A Perkins layup made it 42-40 to start out the second half, then a Landon Rowell trey cut the lead to 44-43, but Good Hope took back control of the contest behind the red-hot shooting of Drew Maddox. He and Cole Maddox helped lead a 15-4 Raider run that pushed their lead to double figures at 59-47. A three by Chaney made it a 61-53 contest, but a big rebound and put-back by Good Hope’s Michael Lowe made it 63-53 going into the final period.

An early 6-2 run by the Raiders increased their lead to 69-55 and despite multiple attempts by Holly Pond to get back in the contest, Good Hope would counter with huge baskets of their own and wound up pulling away at the end to take the game 85-66 and improve to 3-0 on the season.

Drew Maddox had a career-high 38 points, with 21 of those points coming from behind the three-point line. Cole Maddox added 16 points and Eli Phares ended up with nine points as almost every Good Hope player found the scoring column.

For Holly Pond (0-4), Chaney finished with 30 points. Perkins added 13 points and Levi Boatright ended up with 11.

Good Hope’s girls will participate in the Encore Girls Basketball Classic on Saturday while the boys will be participating in the Marx Optical Classic in Priceville on Monday. Holly Pond will host Cold Springs Friday night.
