JONES CHAPEL, Ala. – A vehicle chase instigated when a suspect failed to stop for a traffic violation ended in Jones Chapel Tuesday night. No injuries were reported.

Cullman Police Sgt. Joey Duncan said, “Officer Cole Kelley attempted to stop a vehicle near Temple Baptist Church on 157 for a traffic violation, but the suspect accelerated.”

Duncan said the suspect’s vehicle traveled backroads to U.S. Highway 278 then headed toward Jones Chapel.

“Officer Kelley saw the suspect was slowing down to turn, so to safely end the pursuit, he attempted what we call a pit maneuver, causing the suspect’s vehicle to slide,” said Duncan. “The suspect’s vehicle collided with the push bar of a Cullman County Sheriff’s Office vehicle, causing minor damage.”

Christopher Wayne Williams, 42, of Cullman was arrested, charged with attempting to elude, reckless endangerment and various traffic violations. He was wanted by the Alabama Department of Corrections for parole violations.

Williams’ female passenger was also arrested, on warrants with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Added Duncan, “The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office really helped us out with this incident.”
