BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council at its regular monthly meeting Monday evening officially adopted a policy it has held in practice since it first convened: the body passed an ordinance declaring that the mayor and council members will work for no salary. No member has ever accepted any pay.
Â
Bates explained that the State requires that new municipalities have an ordinance establishing salary rates at least six months before their next election.
Â
The council is also seeking applicants for the position of town clerk. Those interested make contact through the town’s Facebook page. As of Monday’s meeting, no applications had been received.Â
Â
The Berlin Town Council will hold a special called meeting next Monday evening, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. in the Berlin Community Center to consider options for town clerk. The public is invited to attend.
