MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Gov. Kay Ivey on Monday will host the annual Turkey Pardoning, an Alabama tradition dating back 70 years. During the event, Ivey will make the decision to grant a Thanksgiving pardon to two turkeys, Clyde and Henrietta.
Both turkeys come from the Bates Family Farm, which supplies the Bates House of Turkey in Greenville. The Bates family has provided the turkey to be pardoned every year since 1949.
Joining the governor will be Agriculture and Industries Commissioner Rick Pate, Alabama Egg and Poultry Association CEO Johnny Adams and Becky Bates Sloan.
The event will take place at 10 a.m.
