CULLMAN, Ala. – Surgical Arts physicians and staff have joined Cullman Regional Medical Group, the Cullman Regional’s employed physician group. With the addition of Surgical Arts, the group now employs 39 physicians and mid-level providers in anesthesiology, cardiology, family medicine, general surgery, gynecology, interventional cardiology, orthopedic spine surgery, urgent care and urology. The group offers a variety of consumer-friendly services including virtual care, online check-in for urgent care, online appointment scheduling for physician offices and more.
“We are excited to welcome the physicians from Surgical Arts to our team of providers,” said Cullman Regional CEO James Clements. “This practice has been a part of the community for more than 30 years, and we are excited to add this team of physicians to our rapidly growing Cullman Regional Medical Group.”
Surgical Arts, P.C. was established in 1982 in order to combine medical technology, expertise and attention to detail for the patients it serves. The group believes in establishing one-to-one relationships between physicians and patients in order to create a personalized approach to care. The group includes Doctors J.W. Evans, Jr.; Stephen A. McBride, II; Brad R. Moody; and Gregory S. Windham. The group specializes in an array of general surgeries (including laparoscopic and robotic): minor surgery and office procedures, thoracic surgery, abdominal surgery, breast surgery, endoscopic procedures, emergency trauma procedures and vascular surgery.

Across the United States, hospital acquisition of physician practices has increased 128% since 2012, according to a study released in February by the Physicians Advocacy Institute (PAI). In addition, the study found that in July 2012, only 35,700 physician practices were considered hospital-owned, but that number jumped to 80,000 practices by the start of 2018. Over the same five-and-half-year study period, the number of physicians employed by hospitals or health systems increased by more than 70 percent, growing from 94,700 employed physicians in mid-2012 to 168,800 employed physicians by the start of 2018.
