CULLMAN, Ala. – Stone Bridge Farms was filled with talent Monday evening as the second annual West Point High School Dinner Theatre took place, filling the grounds with song, dance and comedy.
“This is one of our major fundraisers for our theater department at West Point. We’re having a dinner here at Stone Bridge, and along with that we have several of our theater students who are going to be performing different musical and dance and acting selections,” said West Point High School Librarian and Co-Theatre Director (along with husband, Jimmy Harbison) Kimberly Harbison. “It’s mostly music; we do have several different numbers that are based off of Broadway shows or musical movies that are very popular.”
Harbison touched on the history of the event.
“This is our second one; last year’s was at the school’s auditorium and we didn’t have it catered, we had a meal our self at the school, and it has grown. The interest grew after that, so we had to find a larger place to have it this year. Stone Bridge was nice enough to rent us this spot on Monday night and catered the meal so we sold tickets for that and we had a good turnout on ticket sales.”
Preparing for the event took time, said Harbison.
“It takes a little bit of putting together with our students to find out what they might want to perform,” she said. “We have close to 80 students in our theater program right now at school, so we selected the ones who are part of the Alabama Trumbauer Theatre Festival (Trumbauer District (3) Theatre Festival) that’s coming up this Saturday at Cullman High School. We have quite a few students who are competing in that, so this is preparation for that. They are getting a practice run on their numbers tonight.”
Monday evening’s performances featured 25 acts from West Point High School students.
Harbison felt positive about the evening, saying, “I’m very excited about tonight and being able to showcase all of our wonderful talents that we have at our school. We have a lot of talent; we are excited to be able to share that with you and we think that everyone will really enjoy the show!”
