CULLMAN, Ala. – Victim Services of Cullman, Inc. (VSC) on Sunday evening held a candlelight vigil at Depot Park in Cullman, in memory of victims of domestic violence.
VSC Director Carol Horstman told the assembled group, “I was doing some reading today and read that, of the women each year who lose their life to homicide, 55% of them are the result of domestic violence. And of those 55%, one in 10 have had some sort of violent incident in the month preceding their death, which tells me that there was an opportunity that we could have helped them.
“Events like this are very important because it helps us raise awareness about our services, and that our community can know that Victim Services is in Cullman, and they have a place right here in their community where they can get help that they need.”
“Transformed into a Venetian Dream” – VSC fundraising masquerade ball coming Nov. 9
On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 VSC will host “Transformed into a Venetian Dream,” a fundraising masquerade ball at Top of the Town (top floor of the Cullman Savings Bank building), 361 Second Ave. SW. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There will be live music and dancing, appetizers and cocktails will be served, and Saturday evening football games will be televised onsite for the sports fans. Formal attire and masks are required. Tickets are available for $30 per person or $50 per couple; contact the VSC office at 256-775-2600 for purchase information.

Horstman talked to The Tribune about things VSC needs from the community, saying, “We can always use paper products, toiletry items; a food drive is always welcome. You know, we feed a lot of people and we provide everything they need, so anything you would use in a day, we can use.”
