Funeral services for Mr. Benny Joe Sterling, 73, and Margaret Sue Glover Sterling, 73, of the Sardis Community will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23 at Sardis Baptist #2. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery, with Rev. Mackey Watts and Rev. Brian Weems officiating. They will lie-in-state at the church from 1-2 p.m.
Benny Joe was born Jan. 2, 1946 to the late Brenton “Jack” Brown Sterling and Lillian Wisner Sterling.
He passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 at Princeton BMC hospital.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jimmy Sterling, son, Joe Sterling; infant sister, Betty Jean Sterling.
He was an automotive machinist and was really passionate about his drag racing; and was known in those circles as “Gentle Ben.”
Benny Joe’s survivors include his daughter Renee Allred; three sisters Ethylene Stallings, Latrille Powell and Connie (Timmy) Powell; two grandchildren Joseph (Amy) Allred and CJ Allred; and one great-grandchild Atlas Allred.
Margaret was born Aug. 20, 1946 to the late Ira Allen Glover and Geda James Glover.
She passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2019 at her residence.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Mavis Loretta Tyree and son Joe Sterling.
Margaret’s survivors include her daughter Renee Allred; three sisters Lorene Powell, Doris (Avery) Calvert and Margie (Ronald) Hale; two brothers Allen (Von) Glover and Buddy (Ann) Glover; two grandchildren Joseph (Amy) Allred and CJ Allred; and one great-grandchild Atlas Allred.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Sardis Baptist #2 Church Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.
