HALEYVILLE, Ala. – Coming off a tough loss to Northside last week, the Good Hope Raiders hit the road Friday night for a region matchup with Haleyville.

Haleyville got the ball first only to chew up some clock and be forced to punt the ball. Good Hope took the ball down the field and punched it in for a touchdown before the end of the opening quarter to make it 7-0. Haleyville got the ball back, but the Raider defense held them to a quick three-and-out, forcing a punt. The Raiders then drove the ball down inside the 20-yard line only to turn the ball over on downs.

The Raiders held the Lions to another quick three-and-out and forced another punt, stepping up big and blocking the punt to take over in Lion territory. The Lions made a big defensive stand and held Good Hope to just a field goal, ending the half with the Raiders in front 10-0.

The Raiders came out in the second half and received the kickoff but couldn’t get anything going on offense. The Lions capitalized on the good field position and took a lengthy drive down the field and punched it in for a touchdown followed by a 2-point conversion that cut the Good Hope lead to 3. The Raiders got the ball back but still couldn’t get anything going and were forced to punt again. Good Hope was able to make another stand on defense, forcing a fumble and taking over possession in Lions’ territory. The Raiders took the opportunity to make it a two-score game at 17-8 with the fourth quarter coming up.

The Raiders drove down the field only to throw an interception and the Lions took over. Good Hope’s defense held the Lions to just a field goal late in the fourth, bringing the score to 17-11 with less than two minutes left, and after recovering an attempted onside kick, the Raiders got in victory formation to finish the game with a 17-11 win.

Raiders Head Coach Alan Scott was happy with the win.

“This was a good team win,” Scott said. “This was the first time in school history that Good Hope has beat the Lions at their home stadium.”

Good Hope will celebrate homecoming against Curry next week.
