HOLLY POND, Ala. – Friday night was homecoming for the Holly Pond Broncos and they faced off against the Tigers of J.B. Pennington. In the end, Pennington was too much for Holly Pond.
The Broncos, wearing their dark green uniforms, received the opening kickoff and started on their own 37-yard line. Their running game looked strong against the Tiger defense as they drove the ball to the Tigers’ 41, but the drive ended early when the Broncos fumbled the ball away.
After both teams traded punts, J.B. Pennington, starting on its own 34, put a strong drive together and crossed into Bronco territory. The Tigers dropped back to pass and found an open receiver for a 44-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead with 3:33 left in the opening quarter.
Following the kickoff, Holly Pond started at its own 34-yard line before turning the ball over on downs at its own 28. Three plays later, J.B. Pennington ran the ball in for its second touchdown of the night, this time from 20 yards out, to make it 14-0.
Holly Pond put together a long drive at the end of the first quarter and down to the Tiger 20-yard line before turning the ball over on downs again.
The Tigers, with quick passes and a hard-running game, went 80 yards to score their third touchdown as time expired in the half to make it a 20-0 game at the break.
J.B. Pennington started the third quarter off just like it ended the first half, with a sustained drive capped off by a 14-yard run that gave the Tigers a 27-point lead.
Holly Pond finally got on the board late in the third when Kyler Chaney ran one in from 15-yards out to cut it to 27-8, but J.B. Pennington scored once again in the fourth to cruise to a 34-8 victory over the Holly Pond Broncos.
The Broncos are idle next week and will return to action against the Vinemont Eagles in two weeks.
