WEST POINT, Ala. – Friday night was homecoming for the West Point Warriors but unfortunately for the fans in attendance, there wasn’t a lot to cheer about outside of the halftime festivities. Jasper scored early and often in the first half to take a big lead early and was able to pull away and hand West Point a 42-7 region loss.
The Vikings scored on their first defensive play when they jumped in front of a Warrior pass and took a pick-six 28 yards for an early touchdown and 7-0 lead. A 65-yard touchdown pass stretched that lead to 14-0 later in the opening period. A 16-yard touchdown run made it 21-0 early in the second quarter and it was the start of a long period for West Point.
A 32-yard touchdown pass gave Jasper a 28-0 lead midway through the second and just over two minutes later, the Vikings connected on a 13-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 35-0 with just under four minutes to play in the half. Jasper got the ball again before the half expired and ran one in from 15 yards out to make it a 42-0 game at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Warriors found the end zone early in the fourth to cut it to 42-7 but were kept off the scoreboard the rest of the way and fell to the Vikings 42-7.
The loss drops West Point to 2-4 on the season with a road trip to Dora coming up next week.
