JASPER, Ala. – After two straight losses, the Hanceville Bulldogs looked to avoid three in a row Friday night as they traveled to Jasper to take on Curry. It was all Hanceville as the Bulldogs quickly rebounded to easily defeat Curry, 50-22.

The opening possession for the Bulldogs ended badly as Zack Campbell threw an interception on just the third play of the series and the Yellow Jackets quickly got on the scoreboard with a 43-yard touchdown run that made it 8-0 with 9:09 left to play in the opening period. Campbell quickly shook off the early interception and found the end zone on the very first play of the next series for Hanceville as he found a hole and wasn’t going to be denied on his 54-yard touchdown run that tied the game up at 8 just 15 seconds later.

The Bulldogs then quickly took over after that as Garrett Riggs picked off an errant Curry pass and their running game dominated the next series as Campbell found the end zone once again, this time on a 14-yard run, to give Hanceville a 16-8 lead. After forcing a Yellow Jackets punt, Campbell found Brodie Malcom for a 57-yard score as Malcom made an unbelievable catch over a defender and took it to the house to increase the lead to 22-8.

Hanceville added yet another score on its next series as Bo Joles found Malcom for a 30-yard touchdown pass to make it 30-8. Then a big completion from Campbell to Logan Guthery for 18 yards later led to Campbell finding Trevor Shadden for a 24-yard score and the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a commanding 38-8 advantage.

Hanceville’s defense continued to lock down on Curry’s offense, forcing a fumble on its opening possession of the second half. Kendrick Johnson fell on the loose ball and the running game was key in helping the Bulldogs find the end zone once more as Guthery scored on a five-yard run to make it 44-8. The Bulldogs added their final score of the night on a 28-yard pass play from Joles to Malcom. Curry added two late scores in the final period as the Bulldogs put in some younger players, but the deficit proved to be too much for the Yellow Jackets as the Bulldogs snapped their two-game losing streak in dominating fashion, taking the game 50-22.

Campbell finished 6-for-8 from 120 yards and a pair of scores, plus 62 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Joles went 3-for-4 for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Malcom finished with four receptions for 129 yards and three touchdowns. The Bulldogs only punted twice and their defense forced three turnovers as they kept Curry’s offense out of sync for most of the game.

Hanceville moves to 3-3 with the win and will be back in region play next week when it hosts Midfield.
