PRICEVILLE, Ala. – After knocking off St. John Paul II a week ago, Fairview hit the road Friday night to take on the Priceville Bulldogs and after a strong start, couldn’t quite finish the game and dropped the regional matchup 31-21.

Priceville received the opening kickoff, starting on their own 33-yard line. The Fairview Aggie defense seemed unable to stop the Bulldog running game as the Bulldogs drove the ball down to the Aggie 4-yard line. Facing first and goal at the 4-yard line, the Aggie defense came to life, not only stopping the Bulldogs but backing them up to the 10 with three straight stops for losses. Using up six minutes of the clock, the Bulldogs settled for a field goal.

Fairview started on its own 22-yard line and used just 49 seconds to score and take a 7-3 lead.

Priceville started its next series on its own 20-yard line and drove the ball all the way down to the Aggie 11-yard line. The first turnover of the game came when the Bulldog quarterback was picked off, giving the Aggies the ball at their own 10-yard line.

The Aggies drive the ball 90 yards for a score to extend their lead to 14-3 with 3:54 left in the half. Following another Bulldog turnover, this time a fumble on their own 20, Fairview took a 21-3 lead with 2:04 left in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs got the ball back and drove 72 yards in less than a minute for their first touchdown of the evening to make it a 21-10 game as the half.

The 3rd quarter began with the first onside kick of the evening by the bulldogs. The Bulldogs recovered the kick at the 50 and Priceville’s running game was hard to stop in the second half. They drove 50 yards to score their second touchdown of the night and after the two-point try failed, Fairview’s lead was down to 21-16.

After an exchange of punts, the Bulldogs took a 24-21 lead with 8:15 left in the 4th quarter and following the touchdown, they successfully executed their second onside kick of the night, giving them the ball again at mid-field.

The Bulldogs running game kept the Aggie defense on the field most of the fourth quarter and eventually found the endzone again to extend their lead with 3:52 left in the game.

The Aggies’ hopes for a comeback were shattered as the Bulldogs intercepted the ball in the endzone with 2:06 left in the game, allowing Priceville to put away a 31-21 win over Fairview.

The Aggies may have come up short, but they have a well-coached football team with outstanding players. Fairview will be off next week before hosting North Jackson Oct. 4.
