COLONY, Ala. – Dollar General quietly opened the doors of its newest Cullman County location Thursday morning, along Alabama Highway 91 just across Interstate 65 from the town of Colony. Colony Mayor Donnis Leeth has made securing a local franchise of the chain part of his platform since taking office in 2016.
The new store is located outside Colony’s town limits, but Leeth said he is working with Dollar General to get the site annexed into the town.
This location joins more than 15 others across Cullman County.
A Dollar General representative previously told The Tribune, “I think Dollar General’s mindset is to make somebody have to pass a Dollar General on their way to Wal-Mart, at least once, so they’ll stop.”
According to Leeth, Colony’s Dollar General expects to have an official grand opening in the next three weeks.
