CULLMAN, Ala. – United Way of Cullman County (UWCC) will host its 2019 Day of Caring Wednesday, Sept. 11. Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs will issue a proclamation Monday, Sept. 9 recognizing the day. Local businesses and organizations will take part by coordinating teams of employees to spend a day giving back to area nonprofit agencies.

“United Way of Cullman County, in collaboration with its community partners and other local nonprofit organizations, will host the annual Day of Caring Sept. 11, 2019. The event will provide community members with a meaningful and collective volunteer opportunity,” said a media release from the UWCC.

“Day of Caring gives our community the opportunity to demonstrate what it means to Live United and give back,” shared UWCC Executive Director Becky Goff. “During Day of Caring, volunteers are able to accomplish projects for local nonprofits that they may not have the resources or the time to complete.”

More than 150 volunteers from local businesses are donating time, volunteers and resources this year to assist with hands-on projects such as cleaning, landscaping, painting, carpentry and providing lunch for program participants.

“As United Way continues to work to bring the community together and make a lasting impact on Cullman, we are excited this year to be able to provide volunteer labor to several local organizations that currently don’t receive funding from United Way,” Goff said. “We want to support organizations in our community that we know are doing great work because we all succeed when our community succeeds.”

Day of Caring kicks off United Way’s annual fundraising campaign, while promoting the value of volunteerism. This year’s event will take place on National Day of Service.  Launched in 2002, the National Day of Service asks people to do at least one good deed on 9/11, in honor of those who died that day. Numerous community service organizations and charities offer opportunities for people to give back, paying tribute to the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, said the release.

Day of Caring will kick off with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the United Way Train Depot (304 First Ave. NE, Cullman). It is sponsored by Reliance Worldwide, LP Building Solutions, Milos, The UPS Store and Publix.

The following businesses will be helping out around the area:
