CULLMAN, Ala. – On Sunday, Cullman developer Shane Quick announced that his Warehouse District eatery Mae’s Food Hall will close on Oct. 5, at the conclusion of this year’s Oktoberfest celebration.
On Sunday evening, Quick issued this statement:
Mae’s Food Hall’s last day of operation will be Saturday October 5th, ironically our two year anniversary and the last day of this year’s Oktoberfest.
I will always be proud of what we built. And when I say “we” I mean countless risk takers, hard workers, and all the individuals who believed in something innovative and cutting edge. They put their time, money and hearts on the line.
I want to thank all the restaurant owners, cooks, employees and loyal customers who made Mae’s a part of their life. We’ve had a lot of fun on this adventure!
I have to agree with Oprah on this one: “I don’t believe in failure. It is not failure if you enjoyed the process.” And I enjoyed every minute of it.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we plan to announce the new and exciting concept to take residence at 110 1st Ave!
Quick spoke to The Tribune Sunday afternoon. He said that a new business is already lined up to come in, but he is holding that card close to the vest.
Said Quick, “We’ll be announcing that in the coming weeks. I want to make sure to give the people from the new concept coming in the opportunity to make the announcement. I don’t want to take that from them. It’s going to be something really great for the area, for the Warehouse District.”
Quick could not say when the new business will be announced, but he expects that word will go out before Mae’s closes at Oktoberfest.
As to the food hall, Quick said, “We’ve had a blast doing it, and really enjoyed all the customers that have come in over the last couple years, and all the local and out of town business owners that have come into the food hall and taken a risk, and tried to do something new and different for this community. And there’s a lot of people have enjoyed it.
“We’ve had a good time, but it’s definitely time to move on and let the building be used for something different. Definitely will be still something we feel like adds to the community. It’s definitely a new season ahead.
“We had a blast doing it, and we’re excited about continuing to invest in this community and try new things, and keep something exciting coming around.”
