FALKVILLE, Ala. – Vinemont traveled just across the county line to face off against the Falkville Blue Devils in what ended up in an old fashion, line up and see who’s going to be more physical. The Eagles came away with a 32-21 victory on the back of a tenacious rushing attack.

After forcing a punt on the opening possession, Dallin Dinkle busted off a huge run on the first play from scrimmage. A few plays later, he capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 6-0 midway through the opening quarter. Falkville answered right back with a strong running game of their own to go ahead 7-6 with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter.

After failing to convert on fourth down, the Eagle defense forced a turnover and two plays later, Dinkle rumbled in from 12 yards out to give Vinemont a 12-7 lead with 8:05 remaining in the half. Once again Falkville regained the lead at 14-12 with 5:40 remaining until halftime. The score remained the same heading to the locker room after Falkville managed to get into field goal range and the Vinemont defense stepped up to force a field goal attempt which was missed.

Vinemont came out of the locker room and ran the ball 10 straight times, capped off by a 9-yard touchdown run from Dinkle that put the Eagles up 18-14 with 7:01 left in the third quarter. Vinemont’s defense stepped up to force a punt and set up Dinkle, who busted off a 26-yard touchdown run to extend the Eagles lead to 26-14 after a successful 2-point conversion from Jack Hill to Colby Miller with 10:31 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Falkville answered right back to cut the lead to 26-21 with 7:55 remaining in the game. The Eagles began to work the clock after that, which wasn’t a problem with the way they had been pounding the ball all night. After Jack Hill set the Eagles up first and goal, he finished the drive with a 1-yard run to give the Eagles a 32-21 advantage with 3:37 remaining in the game. Falkville got down to the 4-yard line, but an incomplete pass sealed the 32-21 road victory for the Eagles.

Dinkle led the way for the Eagles with 267 yards and four touchdowns on the night.

After the game, Vinemont Head Coach Stephen Robinson said, “When I saw the way we came out and ran the ball on the opening drive I knew we had something for them the second half,” Robinson said. “It was huge for us; it would have been a different ballgame if we wouldn’t have done that.”.

The Vinemont Eagles will try stay in the win column when they travel to Westbrook Christian next week.
