CULLMAN, Ala. – The search for Kelsey Starling, 26, of Troy, who has been missing since a boating accident on Smith Lake the night of July 4, 2019, resumes today, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Marine Patrol Commander, Capt. Gary Buchanan.
“Search operations resume today on Smith Lake. The search is part of the ongoing effort to recover Kelsey Starling, who was killed in a 4th of July boat crash,” Buchanan said in a statement.
“Personnel from (the) Smith Lake Task Force, Deepwater Search and Recovery and Houston County Search and Rescue will be participating in the search efforts. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol troopers will be on hand to enforce an idle speed zone in the area of Rock Creek where the search will take place. This operation will continue throughout the week.”
Starling was a passenger in a 2012 Mastercraft wakeboard boat involved in a two-boat crash in the Rock Creek area of Smith Lake at approximately 10 p.m. July 4. The driver of the boat, William Jackson Fite, 23, of Decatur, has been charged with boating under the influence.
