Carmon Maze had a fine heifer to get run over and killed last week.
Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Rhodes visited relatives in Birmingham last Saturday.
Mrs. Jessie Lee Kelsoe has returned from a visit with her brother in Florida.
Lee Corsey, of Jasper, was visiting here last week and looking for a job.
Mr. and Mrs. Frances Harden, of Arab, spent last Sunday afternoon here with relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Blakely.
Forty-five men go for physical
Forty-five men went to Montgomery on Tuesday, October 27th for their pre-induction physical examinations. Billy Russell wins engineering award
Two mechanical students at the Alabama Polytechnic Institute won awards in the Sixth Annual Engineering Undergraduate Award and Scholarship program sponsored by the James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation.
Billy N. Russell, of Cullman and James R. Wilbanks, of Anderson, South Carolina, received fifth and sixth place awards, respectively, for their papers on a manually operated shear. They worked under the supervision of L.M. Sahag, head department of engineering drawing and design.
Mrs. White dies
Funeral services were held at Fellowship on October 26th, for Mrs. Pearl White, age 73, who died at Blount Memorial Hospital, on Sunday. Reverend
W.O. Hunt conducted the services and Brown Service, of Oneonta was in charge of interment.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ettie Bell Blackwood and Mrs. Minnie Edison, both of Cullman and Mrs. Lizzie McCord, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; six sons, D.M., of Cullman, J.D., of Vinemont, H.W., of Gadsden, T.A., of Dayton, Ohio, H.L., of Oneonta and A.L. White, of Akron, Ohio; five sisters and one brother.
Six-hundred new parking meters installed
Six hundred new parking meters have been installed in the city. The units are manually operated and use pennies, nickels or dimes.
“After each coin is deposited, turn the handle as far as possible and when the handle is released, both red flags should disappear. Should the red flag not disappear, please call 290 and report the meter out of order. Please do not pound on the meter,” said Chief O.H. Hancock in explaining the new meters.
Anyone who does not understand the operation of the meter should read the instructions on both front and back of the meter.

Miss Virginia Bice and Doris Burnham went to the singing at Shady Grove, on Sunday night.
