HOLLY POND, Ala. – As part of a series of features on marching bands around the county, The Tribune visited the Holly Pond Bronco Band on its last day of band camp this week. Director Evan Curtis said this year’s halftime show theme is “Emergency.” The show will feature songs with medical themes like “Bad Medicine,” “Stayin’ Alive” and “Stitches,” as well as a finale mash-up of three more songs. He also mentioned that the band had just purchased some sound equipment to add sound effects to the show, making the experience more memorable.
When asked how much progress the band had made through camp, Curtis said he was very pleased with everyone’s hard work.
“Camp has gone really good so far! We’ve already learned the entire show musically, and we have about three-quarters of it completely done with the drill. We are marching and playing three-quarters of the show already, and we’ve only been here a week and a half,” he said. “Things are going really well. The kids are just moving really fast – they’re being really perceptive to what’s being taught, and I think they’re really energized about the show concept.”
Curtis finished the interview by saying, “This has been my favorite camp to work. Since I’ve been here, this has been the best one.”
The Bronco Band will be performing at the Mud Creek Marching Festival in Hanceville and the Southern Hospitality Marching Festival in Hartselle later this year.
