CULLMAN – The prestigious Roderick Beddow, Sr. Lions Club of the Year Award for 2014-2015 was presented to the Cullman Community Lions Club during an awards ceremony at the Lions of Alabama Annual Leadership Conference in Troy, Alabama on Saturday, August 15, 2015.  This award is given annually in honor of Past Lions International President Roderick Beddow to the club who, in the opinion of the selection committee, has most distinguished themselves in service and the promotion of Lionism.

The Community Lions Club was chosen out of 140 Lions Clubs in Alabama as the recipient of the award. Last year’s Community Lions Club President, Ron Seybold, was on hand to accept the award.

“I am so very proud of our members and all they have been able to accomplish for the community. We are able to provide needed service because of the compassion and dedication of our members,” stated Seybold.

Formed in 2011 and consisting of both men and women, the Cullman Community Lions Club places a significant emphasis on juvenile diabetes. The club sponsors the annual STRIDES: Diabetes Awareness Walk at Heritage Park and the Cullman Area Family Fun Day for children and their families living with diabetes at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatics Center.

The club also provides emergency diabetes supplies at all schools in the county and for each school bus that transports a diabetic child. This year’s diabetes walk will be held at 2 p.m. on November 15th.

Additional information is available from Walk Chairman Laurita Hogland 256-531-2298. The club’s annual Oktoberfest Bed Race will be held on October 10th, and everyone is encouraged to attend this fun-filled event.
