MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the first time ever, tennis was included in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s (AHSAA) North-South All-Star Week and Cullman’s Reagan Martin was there representing the Bearcats at the inaugural event. Martin earned a spot on the North squad’s roster and paired up with Westminster Christian’s Bella Wimberly for a doubles match against St. Paul’s Jenna Prater and UMS-Wright’s Mary Frances Wood from the South team. Martin and Wimberly fell in two sets to Wood and Prater, 0-6 and 2-6. The North Girls won overall 8-1.

As one of the members of the first North Tennis roster in All-Star Week history, Martin was excited to meet the competition in Montgomery and work on improving but also appreciates the chance to be part of this event.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know my competitors and just having a good time on the court,” Martin said. “I think it’s very important that they added tennis to the All-Star games and it’s an honor to be part of the first group to play. I hope that it makes me a better player and a better competitor.”

With her senior season at Cullman coming next spring, Martin hopes that this experience will help her build some momentum going into her final year as a Bearcat.

The AHSAA’s 23rd annual North-South All-Star Sports Week will conclude tonight with volleyball at 4 p.m. and football at 7 p.m.
