GARDEN CITY, Ala. – The Garden City Town Council Monday night voted to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to repair water lines throughout the town. The grant will be for $350,000 and the Town would absorb the 20% match and any remaining costs associated with the project.

Mayor-Pro Tempore Scott Arnold said of the project, “We think it would benefit the town.”

In other business, the council continued its discussion about establishing a police department or entering a township deputy contract with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, still leaning toward the town deputy.

The council still had some questions and concerns for Sheriff Matt Gentry, who could not attend the meeting Monday evening.

Councilman Doug Pender suggested a one-year contract for a deputy.

Mayor Tim Eskew said, “All we need to do is negotiate a contract with them (CCSO).”

He suggested setting up a meeting with Gentry to settle more specific questions and possibly “forge a contract.”

Councilman Butch Bradford added, “We need specific answers.”

The Garden City Town Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Garden City Town Hall.
