CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Caring for Kids (CCK), the area child abuse prevention advocate best known for its very active food bank, is desperately in need of donations, according to Director Javon Daniel, who said the shelves are empty.
Daniel reports that the food bank is running low on almost all items it commonly distributes and needs donations right now.
Daniel told The Tribune, “We’ve done over 200 families in (the last) four (business) days. So, kids are at home. More people, they come in because they need food for their kids, their grandkids that they’re keeping, whatever. And, I’ll tell you what, Craig, we’ve got a lot of food going out of this place.
“You know, I’ve always said that we do 10, 12 tons of food a month out of here. Last month, we did 575 families. That equated to over 1,100 individuals. It’s been really, really busy so far this summer.”
Items commonly needed include cereal (especially kids’ cereal), peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, canned pasta and any popular children’s foods. Canned goods are needed as well, along with dry goods like crackers, rice and beans. And of course, CCK’s partnership with the North Alabama Food Bank gives it the ability to buy at huge discounts, so a little monetary donation can go a long way, too.

Chick-fil-A gearing up to help
On Tuesday, July 30, Cullman Chick-fil-A (CFA) will host a “Mobile App Spirit Day” on behalf of CCK. When orders are placed at the Cullman store via the CFA app any time that day, a portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to CCK.
Daniel explained that orders must be placed through the app to qualify, but even folks who want to dine at the restaurant that night can still order onsite through the app. For those who dine in, the CFA Cow and representatives from CCK will be at the Cullman restaurant that day from 5-7 p.m., and diners can register to win a CFA gift basket.
Daniel told The Tribune, “We’re excited to partner with them. We’ve talked with them several times, and they’re good folks. They’re super good folks to work with, and we at Cullman Caring for Kids are very excited to work with Chick-fil-A.”
