CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) will host a Church Safety Class Thursday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church (30 County Road 1184, Cullman, AL 35057). The class will focus on prevention and the steps a church and congregation can take to prevent imminent danger.
Discussion items will include the creation of a church security team, increasing situational awareness and promoting building security.
The CCSO encourages two to four members of each church to attend- members that could make up a security team. Carpooling is also encouraged.
“Saying that our first church safety class was successful would be an understatement. We had over 1,000 citizens attend our class in 2017,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry. “We have all seen in the media and online the attacks that evil people have perpetrated against our churches, schools, business, etc. in recent years. At the sheriff’s office, our citizens are our top priority, and we wanted to again offer a class to the community on what they can do to protect themselves and their family.”
The class will be taught by CCSO Investigator Trevor Clemmons and Deputy Chad Whaley, who have more than 30 years of law enforcement experience combined.
Registration is not required, but it is encouraged as it gives CCSO deputies a good idea how many participants will be attending the class.
