CULLMAN, Ala. – Thunderstorms made their way across north Alabama late Wednesday night and left several homes in Cullman and Winston County without power. According to Cullman Electric Cooperative’s (CEC) Manager of Communications Brian Lacy, the peak outage was approximately 2,200 members when the storms came through overnight but no one area had more than 50 outages across Cullman and Winston County. CEC is currently working to restore power to approximately 350 members in 31 separate outages. Lacy says tree limbs and lightning were the primary cause of the outages.
Cullman County EMA Director Phyllis Little says they haven’t received reports of structural damage but there are several power outages and downed trees across the county.
“CEC is working to restore power to customers across the county. The largest outages are around Smith Lake and may take a little longer due to terrain and access but are not expected to be extended outages,” Little said. “We hope to have everyone back up by the end of the day. No structural damage has been reported, just downed trees and powerlines. Power crews are out and working to make repairs.”
