CULLMAN, Ala. – Multiple agencies battled a structure fire in the 2500 block of County Road 719 Monday morning. Firefighters from Walter, Johnson’s Crossing, Cullman and Fairview were on the scene. No injuries were reported, and there are no reports of anyone in the structure.
According to Cullman Fire Rescue Division Chief of Operations Darren Peeples from the scene, “When the first unit got on scene, it was well involved; the front half of the structure was fully involved. We had a little bit of difficulty getting down this road, limited water, we had to shuttle water, so it had already started collapsing before we even arrived. The front half is pretty much on the ground and back half has still got some burning going on.”
Peeples said it’s too early to tell what caused the blaze.
“And maybe too late, too,” he said, “because of how much damage is done. There was a good cooperative response from city and county agencies, we did what we could, but there’s just not a whole lot, you know, what we could do, back here with limited water and limited access.”
First on the scene was Chase Cornell of Cullman Fire Rescue, who said, “When we pulled up on the scene, we had a single-story residence about two-thirds involved; at that time, we established defensive tactics given the limited water supply and access. I’d like to thank everyone that partook in helping extinguish this structure fire.”
