CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) School Resource Deputies (SRDs) will be out in force from now until August in Cullman County. With the school year coming to a close, Sheriff Matt Gentry has directed the use of SRDs to help in drug enforcement, crime suppression, DUI and traffic law enforcement.

The SRDs just started the enhanced patrols this week and have already made two felony arrests for trafficking in illegal drugs and one DUI arrest. In 2018, SRDs made several felony arrests, misdemeanor arrests and DUI arrests.

More reasons for the enhanced patrols are the recent increase in the number of wrecks in the county and the patrolling of areas that may have had a recent increase in the number of thefts and burglaries.

“Since I began my law enforcement career 20 years ago our call volume has risen here in Cullman County, where we answer over 60,000 calls for service a year. Having our School Resource Deputies during the summer months out observing for suspects who are committing burglaries, thefts and selling drugs is a great resource for us,” said Gentry.
