PREP BASKETBALL: Raiders collect 3 Friday night wins in summer play

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — After splitting a pair of summer games Thursday night, Good Hope went back to work on Friday by playing three more games. The first game saw them hold off Collinsville in a defensive affair 33-25. In game two, the Raiders took on Deshler and went on to take the game 53-45 then in their final contest of the night, they lit it up from deep as they ripped past Red Bay 72-52.

Good Hope 33 – Collinsville 25

Good Hope started out their night against Collinsville and wound up taking the game in a low-scoring affair, 33-25.

Good Hope 53 – Deshler 45

In game two, Good Hope faced off against Deshler and behind big performances by Cole Maddox and Michael Lowe, the Raiders defeated the Tigers 53-45.

Good Hope 72 – Red Bay 52

After putting up 18 points in the second game of the night against Deshler, Lowe, who celebrated his 18th birthday on Friday, got off to a strong start by scoring seven of his team’s first 12 points against Red Bay. He and Dawson Turner hit consecutive treys to give the Raiders a 15-11 lead. Another Turner three, later followed by back-to-back made shots from Lowe, increased Good Hope’s lead to 22-15. Red Bay cut it to 22-19 on consecutive layups, but the Raiders finished the half strong as Tanner Malin started a half-ending 13-1 run with a trey from the left wing, and it was finished by Colton Williams, who scored the final six points of the half, to push their lead to 35-20 when halftime hit.

The Tigers started out the second half red-hot as they went on an 11-3 run to cut Good Hope’s lead to 38-31 but the Raiders quickly responded with a three-point barrage, led by Drew Maddox who hit six in a row at one point, and Lowe and Turner each added one during their big run. Good Hope quickly pulled away to win by 20, 72-52. They finished the game with 14 made treys, with nine of those coming in the second half.

Drew Maddox finished with 19 points and a pair of steals for the Raiders. Lowe added 14 points, three rebounds, a steal and a block. Turner ended up with 14 points as well. Williams added six points, as did Cole Maddox, who also added 11 rebounds, four steals, two blocks, and two assists. Eli Phares finished with six points and a steal. Malin ended up with three points, and Michael Owens (steal) and Harper Chiaranda each chipped in with two points.  

Good Hope will take the court next Tuesday at Hartselle when they face Ardmore at 2:00, Hartselle at 3:50, and Vestavia Hills at 5:40 p.m. to finish the day.
