BAILEYTON, Ala. – Community projects were the main topic of discussion Monday night at the Baileyton Town Council meeting. The Town has been asked by Rep. Randall Shedd, R-Fairview and Sen. Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman to compile a list of 10 projects the Town would like to accomplish in the next year. Mayor Johnny Dyar asked the members of the council to think of some improvements to submit to the state delegation.
Council members discussed projects that would help existing businesses expand and would be beneficial to the entire community. Nothing was decided Monday night, but the subject will be addressed again at the July council meeting.
The Town has been working to fix some issues with the senior center. Work has been done to the roof, and Dyar said he is hopeful leaks will not be a problem again after replacing many broken nails that were believed to be the source of the water leaks. The ice maker at the center also went out, but Dyar said luckily it was only a problem with a wire and was a simple fix.
Dyar also suggested to the council that the Town of Baileyton create a veterans’ memorial at the town park. Improvements to the park have been appreciated by members of the community, according to the mayor, and the council agreed that the memorial was a “great idea.” The Tow plans to honor those from Baileyton who died in service.
A hole that continues to be a problem on Summit Road will soon be fixed. The hole was caused by a rotten and collapsed culvert, and the council approved the culvert’s replacement. The Town will soon put in a new 30-foot culvert. Gravel will be put down over the new culvert until it has time to properly settle before any asphalt is put down over it.
Dyar explained to the council a medical expense incurred by a new Baileyton employee, saying, “Saturday, he (the employee) cut his finger. I called (Town Clerk) Pat (Gilbert) and asked her what I needed to do and she said to carry him to the emergency room. I carried him to the emergency room and got his finger fixed. The bill was somewhere between $4,000 to $5,000.”
The council approved the payment.
The Baileyton Town Council meets at Baileyton Town Hall the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
