GOOD HOPE, Al. — Good Hope’s varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball coaches along with their staffs and current varsity players hosted this year’s Raider basketball skills camp at Good Hope High School Tuesday and Wednesday. The ages ranged from boys and girls entering the third grade this fall through players entering the eighth grade and the camp yielded a solid turnout of young athletes.

Raiders head coach Drew Adams was very happy with how the camp has gone so far, how many boys and girls have been showing up to it, and what they have been working on during the camp.

“It’s been going good so far,” Adams said. “We’ve had about 32 or 33 kids ranging from third grade up to eighth grade, so we’ve had a good mixture of some younger kids and some older kids. We kind of section them off by grade so that they are with people close to their age. We mostly work on fundamental stuff. We’ll work on shooting, ball handling, defense, passing, just pretty much the basics and then close to the end of each day, we’ll let them do some competitions like three-on-three, one-on-one, stuff like that.”

Adams is really pleased with how many boys and girls are showing up to the camp, and this will help them get to know the varsity players and coaches more and more each day.

“First, I think it helps them get better during the week of the summer, where they normally wouldn’t be working on basketball,” Adams said. “Secondly, it helps us get to know them. They get to be around the varsity boys and varsity girls for a week and get to be around the coaches, so I think this is good for the community overall.”
