CULLMAN, Ala. — Another year of softball is in the books for Cullman County and after a season full of great games, great teams and great performances, Buffalo Wild Wings is sponsoring an All-County softball team for the 2019 season. This year’s team, selected by the coaches of Cullman County, consists of 14 players who excelled on the diamond this year and they’ll be recognized for making the team at a presentation dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings June 3.
Cold Springs’ Anna Katherine Voce earned a spot on this year’s roster after playing a big role during the season for the Lady Eagles. Voce, a sophomore, was a big part of the Cold Springs rotation and filled the clean-up spot in the lineup. Voce will look to continue improving into her junior season and help Cold Springs take another shot at a postseason run in 2020.
Fairview junior Katie Ball made this year’s team and like Voce, was a big factor for the Lady Aggies on the mound and at the plate this season. Ball had several highlights throughout the spring including hitting a walk-off, 3-run home run in the Lady Aggies’ come-from-behind win over Ashville at home. With her being one of several players coming back next season, Ball will look to make even more noise in her senior year and help the Lady Aggies get back to the postseason.
Four players made the list for the Good Lady Raiders, Morgan Goodwin, Skylar Tucker, Bailey Swann and Sidnie English, after a stellar 2019 season. The Lady Raiders won an area and regional title on their way to Montgomery and finished 5th in the state tournament. Goodwin was the perfect leadoff batter for the Lady Raiders this year, batting .549 with 22 RBIs, 49 runs scored and collecting 17 stolen bases on the season. Tucker was a tough out as well, hitting .482 with a home run, 36 RBIs, 38 runs scored and led the team with 18 doubles. Swann was just as dangerous, hitting .570 with a team-leading 6 homers, 49 RBIs, 57 runs scored, and she led the team with 35 stolen bases during her senior campaign. English, a junior, dominated at the plate and on the mound. She finished with a .376 batting average, a home run, 39 RBIs and 10 stolen bases while on the mound, English posted a 31-6 record with a 2.30 ERA.
Hanceville’s Cassidy Campbell made this year’s All-County squad as a sophomore. Coming off of an injury, she continued to improve and lead the way in the circle and at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs who finished with an 8-14 mark on the season. Hanceville has a lot of youth returning to the field in 2020 and Campbell will be looked to as one of the leaders as she continues to get better.
A pair of Holly Pond standouts landed on the team as well, seniors Madison Heatherly and Emili Perry. Both were big factors at the plate during the Lady Broncos’ 9-16 season and their production will be missed when Holly Pond hits the field again in 2020.
Lady Eagles senior Madison Oliver made the team for Vinemont after serving as a leader offensively and defensively this season. She was one of the anchors for this year’s Vinemont team as the lone senior on the roster and helped lay the groundwork for a very young Lady Eagles squad going forward.
Four Lady Warriors earned spots on the All-County squad after another big year on the diamond for West Point, Gracie Abbott, Carlie Wilkins, Molly Pendley and Makayla Brown. Despite not having Olivia Ball for the season due to a torn ACL, the Lady Warriors were able to put plenty of runs on the board this season, captured their sixth straight county title, won the Class 5A, Area 14 championship and advanced to regionals. Brown racked up five RBIs in wins over Grissom and Brewer this year, Pendley was a constant for West Point both at the plate and catching behind it, Abbott brought power to the leadoff spot for the Lady Warriors and Wilkins carried the load on the mound.
The presentation dinner for this year’s All-County team will be at Buffalo Wild Wings June 3r at 6:30. Buffalo Wild Wings is located at 1700 2nd Ave. SW.
