CULLMAN, Ala. – A 12-year-old boy was killed in a boating accident on Smith Lake early Saturday evening. The incident happened near Goat Island.
Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatick confirmed the fatality.
The Alabama Marine Patrol (AMP) Division of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is expected to release more information regarding the tragic incident Sunday.
Late Saturday, Capt. Gary Buchanan said in a statement:
“ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers are investigating a boat crash that occurred today on Smith Lake near Goat Island around 6:20 p.m. The single vessel crash resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy from the Vinemont area. Investigators say that a boat was pulling three juveniles on tubes when one of them was fatally injured.”
