Obituary: Ruby Lanco “RL” Ard

Ruby Lanco “RL” Ard, 73, passed away on May 14, 2019 surrounded by family at his residence on Smith Lake in Cullman, Alabama. RL was born to Bishop Flemon Jacob Ard, Sr. and Edith Richardson Ard on Aug. 3, 1945 in Hemingway, SC.

RL was a skilled architect and builder as evidenced by his home on Smith Lake. He was employed by CSX Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for almost forty years. He loved music of all genres, poetry, fishing, family, friends, and teaching the Bible.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his beloved wife Kathy (nee) Harville, sons Ronald David (Lisa), Timothy Lane (Vonda), Chadrick Lanco (Andrea), and daughter Cynthia Marie Rice. RL had one daughter-by-choice, Pam Harville (Wayne). Grandchildren include Taylor Ard, Haley Rice, Austin Rice, Noah Ard, Zoe Ard, Malachi Ard, Chloe Ard, and three great-grandchildren. He also included two grandchildren-by-choice: Megan Brooke Harville and Jesse Wayne Harville. RL had four siblings: Genie Byrd (James), Pat McKelvey (Maxwell), Flemon Ard, Jr. (Gale) and Judith Heath (James). RL enjoyed a multitude of friends and neighbors who will remember him as a helpful, loving, and kind Christian man.

Funeral will be at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home located at 255 County Road 1435, Cullman, AL 35058 with Bishop Flemon Ard, Jr. presiding. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 19 from 6-8 p.m., and funeral service Monday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Interment will be following the service in the funeral home gravesite with Bishop James Heath presiding.
