HANCEVILLE, Ala. – On Thursday evening, Wallace State Community College (WSCC) hosted the fifth annual North Alabama Agriplex Harvest-to-Home dinner.  The fundraising event featured a huge silent auction, as well as a meal of locally sourced foods supplied by:

  • Trent Boyd Harvest Farm
  • Brickyard Meats
  • J. Calvert Farm Strawberries
  • Champion Farms
  • Fatback Pig Project
  • Fat Cat Organics
  • Goldenvine Farms
  • Humble Heart Farms
  • North Alabama Agriplex
  • Par 5 Livestock
  • Polland Milling Company
  • St. Bernard Abbey
  • Wallace State Small Farmer Training Program

Agriplex Director Rachel Dawsey told The Tribune, “We are thankful for our sponsors.  Alabama Farm Credit is our event sponsor. Trigreen sponsored us; you would see they brought a big green tractor to put in the front of the building!

“Wallace State’s donated the space for us, and is having Chef John Wilson who’s with Culinary Pride here.  They are catering the meal. It’s very, very fancy! So, this is the second year they’ve catered that with us, and they don’t usually do things like this, but he was willing to because their students would get to participate in a farm-to-fork dinner, which is a little bit different from your normal catering because you don’t just get everything right at the same time.  But Chef Wilson has been very patient with us in picking up things little by little by little.

“Also, Cullman Jefferson Gas is one of our sponsors. I think our silent auction is bigger this year than it was last year.  We have a lot of stuff: locally-grown items, gardening items; we have some trips, all kinds of things.  It’s a good event!”

Wilson and Wallace State Culinary Pride prepared appetizers and a meal including spiced lamb cupcakes, three kale salad and an entree featuring molasses and balsamic vinegar lacquered pork belly, goat cheese polenta, sweet and sour fried cabbage and Monte Cassino bread from the St. Bernard Abbey.  Cullman County sweet potato bread pudding with pecan crumble and bourbon caramel sauce rounded out the menu.

Billy and Jamie Troutman served as masters of ceremonies.  Chef Wilson and Alabama Farm Credit CEO Mel Koller addressed the audience, before the crowd was treated to a musical sampling of the Wallace State Singers’ upcoming Alabama 200 Bicentennial show.  Dr. Tom Williamson, Dr. Bill Peinhardt and Mrs. Doris Patterson shared their stories of Alabama.
