CULLMAN, Ala. – At last year’s Relay For Life event, Elena Caudle’s relay team hosted a fundraising drawing for prizes, and the success of that effort set the stage for a repeat performance, this time bigger and better.  Caudle’s “Minion Magic” team is overseeing the 2019 “Cash in for a Cure” drawing at this year’s Relay for Life, with around 100 donated prizes from more than 60 donors. Relay For Life 2019 will take place Friday, May 3 at the Cullman County Fairgrounds from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Caudle told The Tribune, “We named our Relay for Life team ‘Minion Magic’ because we understand that what so often can’t be accomplished by individual little ‘yellow’ people, seems to happen by magic when we and our local businesses all come together with one goal in mind!

“In this case, and in just a little over two weeks, that magic is happening already in a big way!

“After the amazing success of last year’s trial run hosting a ‘silent drawing,’ we have been asked to host the event again.

“This year with a new name and the hopes of it becoming an annual event, the ‘CASH IN for a CURE’ silent drawing will once again be at the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life celebration on May the third on the fairgrounds near Sportsman Lake.

“That’s all exciting and so very much fun, but to us, the real story here is our community!  In such a short time, we have collected over 80 donations from the huge-hearted folks and businesses in our and your community; and the prizes just keep coming!

“These prizes, which have been donated by both individuals and our local businesses, range from $25 gift cards, Rock the South and Dollywood tickets, to Game Cameras for the hunters, and so many other things you can’t begin to imagine!  The thing is, we don’t think the gifts are the best part. We think the best part of the whole thing is the GIVERS!

“We know that our local businesses especially are bombarded from every side and all the time with requests for ‘something.’  And we know that it must sometimes feel like no one understands that, just like us individuals, it’s hard to have enough to give to everyone you’d like.  And yet, there have been very few- like maybe two- places that have said anything other than ‘Sure! I’d love to help you out!’

“And we want everyone to know not only who you are, but that we totally understand and appreciate all you do, and not just for us.  We are grateful for all you do for the entire community! So we have asked the amazing folks at The Cullman Tribune to help us pay tribute to your kind and beautiful hearts, to say thanks for helping us in this battle to find a cure for the monster named cancer!”

Get involved!

Caudle invited: “Put your cash in to help find a cure for cancer, and win a wonderful prize at the same time!  It’s a win, win, win! Plus, it’s a lot of fun to join the party and become one of us ‘Minions of Magic’ with one goal which is to help fund the fight to find a cure for cancer!

“And we want to invite everybody to come out and just see what it’s all about.  Bring a few dollars to give yourself the chance to win at least one of the amazing prizes we have.  Sit and reflect, and honor and/or remember folk you know who’ve been touched by cancer at our oh-so-special luminary service, and then submerge yourself into the fun and excitement that is Camp Relay!  We’d be so glad to see you!”
