CULLMAN, Ala. – Head Start and Kindergarten registration is happening now for 2019-2020 school year. Here’s what you need to know.
Cullman City Primary School Kindergarten Registration
In-district early registration for first-time kindergarten students is taking place now through May 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Children who live inside the city limits of Cullman and are 5 years old on or before Sept. 2, 2019 will be eligible for kindergarten.
The only out of district applications being accepted at this time are for students whose legal guardians are employed by Cullman City Schools and students who have older siblings currently enrolled at Cullman City Schools.
Documents needed for registration
- Original birth certificate (preferred but not required)
A copy will be made and the original returned. Alabama residents may obtain copies at the Cullman County Health Department.
- Original Social Security card (preferred but not required)
A copy will be made and original returned to you.
- Current Alabama Immunization Record (blue card)
State Department requires schools to have the original on file
- Two proofs of residency
One must be a current home ownership title or a lease/rent agreement (for 9 months).
One must be a utility bill.
- Parent/legal guardian driver license (preferred but not required)
- Any custody documents if applicable

Cullman City Head Start
Cullman City Head Start is taking applications for the 19-20 school year. Enrollment is open to all 3 and 4 year olds (child must be 3 or 4 on or before Sept. 2) who meet the income eligibility guidelines and live in the city limits of Cullman. Classes are in session 7:45-2:40, Monday-Friday. All services are free. Call 256-775-0234, ext. 7000 for more details.

Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted during the kindergarten registration process so parents should bring their student to the registration. The following documents are also needed:
- Documentation of birth date (certified birth certificate preferred)
- Up-to-date Immunization Card (blue card) School is required to have the original on file.
- Proof of residency- utility bill or residential lease documentation of current physical address etc. No PO boxes.
- Other documentation- any documentation the school needs to be aware of such as child custody or special health needs.
- Social Security card- not required but preferred
To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019.
Cullman County Head Start
All questions and applications for Head Start should go through Community Action Partnership of North Alabama (CAPNA). This is a federal agency that operates independently of Cullman County Schools. This link provides information for CAPNA: https://www.capna.org.
Sacred Heart PreK- 12
Enrollment is open now for all grades, but classes are filling up quickly. For information, contact Kristi Wilson at the school office at 256-734-4563.
St. Paul’s Lutheran PK3-6
Enrollment is open now for all grades. St. Paul’s welcomes students of all denominations and out of district but classes are filling quickly. For more information, visit the school’s office or website, www.stpaulscullman.com.
Vinemont Christian Academy K4 & K5-12
Enrollment is now open through July. Vinemont Christian offers a home school program. For more information on admission requirements, tuition and programs, visit www.vinemontchristianacademy.com.
